OPERATIONAL SUPPORT ACTIVIES:  BEHIND-THE-SCENES WORK AT FOOTHILLS REGIONAL 9-1-1:

1,868

Tess Brown

During the reporting period of June 2025, our team managed

1,868 support tasks.  In addition to managing emergency and non-emergency calls, Emergency Communications Officers play a vital role in maintaining the continuity and effectiveness of public safety operations.  Our professionals handle a wide range of support tasks that ensure responders in the field have the information and coordination they need.  Key responsibilities include:

      - Managing 9-1-1 Hang-Up Calls - verifying caller safety

and determining whether emergency services are

required, often involving callbacks and location tracing.

      - Coordinating Utility Services - liaising with utility                           providers

(eg., gas, power, water) to support emergency crews

during incidents such as fires, collisions or hazardous

          material events.

      - Work Alone Monitoring- tracking the safety of individuals

working in isolated or high-risk environments, ensuring

timely intervention if contact is lost.

      - Ongoing Radio Traffic Monitoring - maintaining

situational awareness by listening to and managing

radio communications between field units and dispatch,

enabling rapid response and resource allocation.

These activities are critical to the seamless operation of emergency services and demonstrate the depth of responsibility held by PSAP staff beyond direct call handling.
