NEXT GENERATION 9-1-1 (NG911)

NG911 is a federally mandated program to modernize the 9-1-1 system in Alberta, transitioning it from a legacy analog network to a digital, Internet Protocol (IP) based system.  This transition will enhance public safety by providing faster, more accessible and more reliable emergency communications.

Key features include:

Better location information - more accurate and quicker data to determine a callers location,         making it easier for first responders to find them.

More resilient and able to handle call overload, especially during a natural disaster or mass   casualty incident, enuring that calls are answered even when the 9-1-1 system is stressed.

The Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) has mandated that all 9-1-1 services in Canada transition to NG911 by 2026.
